The Beatniks の2nd アルバム「EXITENTIALIST A GO GO」(1987年)の1トラック目に収録されている。
同名の映画があるけれども、映画は1990年発表で、こちらの曲より後の作品となる。
The Beatniks は鈴木慶一と高橋幸宏のユニット。楽曲はビートルズ的なライトポップ。今聞くとシンセブラスの音が古臭い。リアルのホーンセクションを使っていたほうが良かったのではないかとも思うが、当時はシンセサイザーがもてはやされていた時代なので仕方がない。
ボーカルが常に一拍遅れる、高橋幸宏氏独特のアレンジで、聞いている時は聞き流してしまうけれども、いざ歌うとなると何処で入っていいのかタイミングが分からなくなる、リズム感が要求される曲である。
作詞のGILES DUKE氏についてはググっても何も出てこない。
「EXITENTIALIST A GO GO」の歌詞カードは手書きによる筆記体で、正直読みづらい。このため、私も今回書き起こして初めて「こんな内容だったんだ」と知った次第である。
歌詞の内容は、道を歩いていたらgnomeが居たけど見なかったことにした、ということらしい。
